AMY: Albuquerque native, traded green chile and pink mountains for foggy mornings and Pacific Proximity while attending college at Saint Mary’s College of California in the Bay Area, eventually graduating with a communication major/history minor. Somehow found her way back home (obviously for a reason!). Now works for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Has an addiction to shoes, coffee, and wine (but not in an Amy Winehouse/Rehab type way).
AARON: Also an Albuquerque native, traded green chile and pink mountains for hot weather and scorpions while attending college in Phoenix, but quickly found his way back to Albuquerque and the University of New Mexico, eventually graduating with a degree in exercise science. Now works for Defined Fitness as the youth programming manager. Has an addiction to Ironman Triathlons, Nutella, and Back to the Future.
HOW WE MET: It all really started about 14 years ago in the mid 90′s when 12 year old Aaron befriended Dave in 6th grade at Wilson Middle School. Meanwhile, across town and two years into the future, 12 year old Amy befriended Rebecca in the 6th grade at Madison Middle School. About 10 years after 6th grade, Rebecca not only acquired Dave (who she met while attending UNM) as a boyfriend, but also a whole slew of his longtime friends including one Mr. Aaron Lavender.
A couple of years later Amy returned home to Albuquerque after spending 4 years in California and started hanging out more regularly with Rebecca, Dave, and their friends. Although Amy and Aaron were often at the same gatherings and were probably introduced numerous times, it wasn’t until St. Patrick’s Day in 2008 while in front of Dave’s fire pit when the first actual conversation took place, and a friendship immediately formed which was developed during the next several gatherings.
One night in mid-May Amy and Rebecca ran into Aaron and a couple of his friends at Burt’s downtown (on a Thursday night of course). Amy and Aaron spent the majority of the evening deep in conversation, and even ventured onto the dance floor for some Burt’s style dancing (i.e. moving around like goons to music that most people don’t know the words to). Aaron (being the very responsible young man he is) requested a ride home from Rebecca and Amy at the end of the evening. During the ride home, Aaron not only asked Amy for her number, but also for the honor of escorting her to Rebecca’s graduation party on Sunday (3 days later), both of which she consented to. Apparently Sunday wasn’t soon enough for Aaron because the very next day, he sent Amy a text message which read, “I can’t see a beautiful woman such as yourself eating alone on a Friday night,” which (despite being communicated through TEXT MESSAGE), resulted in a first date at the charming St. Clair restaurant followed by a viewing of Back to the Future (agreed on by both as one of the best movies of all time).
The second date followed the next day, and the third date followed the day after that, and within the first couple of weeks Aaron and Amy became inseparable, and they have been enjoying every second of their relationship together ever since.
Awww, I love reading y’alls story about meeting!! Super sweet. You two are great!!
